What happens when deleting a circle?

In Holaspirit, circles are central to your organization’s structure and governance. Deleting a circle is a critical action that can lead to data loss or unintentional changes if not done carefully. This article outlines what happens when a circle is deleted, how to move elements to other circles beforehand, and who is allowed to perform these actions.

What Happens When a Circle Is Deleted?

When a circle is deleted, the following elements are permanently affected:

  • All roles and sub-circles within the circle are deleted.
  • Projects, project boards, and OKRs assigned to the circle are also removed.
  • The action is irreversible—once deleted, the circle and its contents cannot be recovered.

To help prevent accidental deletion, Holaspirit displays a clear and detailed confirmation alert. This includes a collapsible summary of all items that will be impacted (roles, sub-circles, boards, and OKRs), helping users understand the full scope of the action before proceeding.

How to Move Elements to Another Circle?

Before deleting a circle, you can manually move its elements to other existing circles to preserve important data.

  • Roles and sub-circles: Use the Move Circle or Move Role button in its three-dots menu to move it to another circle (you need to be a member of both circles to perform this action).
  • Projects and OKRs: Change their assigned circle on their card.
  • Boards: Change their assigned circle in the board assignation section.

📌 Note: Role assignments are preserved when roles are moved to another circle.
