What's a circle?

Today, organizations have to reinvent themselves continuously and to be dynamic enough to respond to the challenges they face.

That’s why, holaspirit organizes your team into self-managed circles. This system aims to eliminate the problems associated with traditional management, in which processes can be too rigid, creativity can be stifled, and decision-making can be too slow or restrictive. Self-managed teams can remove these obstacles, moving faster, operating with greater clarity of purpose, and taking decisions autonomously.

A circle is a teams and can be formed by grouping multiple roles together, with team members holding a number of different roles.

You can be a member of several circles. For example, you work on Social Media for the Circle Marketing and work on Event Organization for the Circle Events.

What's the difference between a circle and a role?

A Circle is a Role that has expanded into more parts. A circle brings together different roles assigned to people that forms a team.

For example, if you energize the Social Media Role and realize that the work goes beyond a simple role, you might opt to convert that role into a circle. You will be able to create new role in that Circle to fulfill the purpose of Social Media.

In short, a Circle is treated like a Role with the additional authority to break itself down into sub-Roles. A Circle, just as a Role is defined by 3 dimensions:

  • a “Purpose”, which is a capacity, potential, or goal that the Circle will pursue or express on behalf of the organization.

  • one or more “Domains”, which are things the Circle may exclusively control and regulate as its property, on behalf of the organization.

  • one or more “Accountabilities”, which are ongoing activities of the organization that the Circle will enact.

How can I move the Roles/Policies from one Circle to another sub-Circle?

A circle can contain sub-circles which can themselves contain sub-circles.

In some situation, your organization may want to restructure and move the policies and roles to others sub-circles in the organization to better fit the reality. Check out how you can move roles and policies from one sub-circle to another.

Can a user be part of Circle without holding a Role?

In some cases, a user may need to be part of the Circle even though he/she does not hold a Role. Holaspirit allows you to add members without role in a Circle. He/she can:

  • Add a Governance proposal in the Circle

  • Attend Meetings and access the Meeting's Reports.

  • Review and get updates about the Circle's activities

Can I integrate my Circle with others tools?

Every team has its own way of working and generally uses different tools.
While one team may prefer Trello, another might use Slack and Jira. For this reason, every circle has the option of integrating whatever apps they prefer to use. This way, each circle can be as efficient as possible, even if their work style differs from the rest of the organization.

How can I delete a Circle?

You may want to delete a Circle at some point:

  • Because the work has been completed

  • There's a more effective way to structure the work
